Things will be constantly added and removed from this post, and comments pertaining to a specific item will be removed once the item is removed. It'll keep it tidy.
As for content, I have no fucking idea what do put here. What would even count as news? Why did I create this post? Who knows, maybe I'll think of something better and replace it. All hail the edit button!

Beta deleted half of the profile, because it wasn't going to get completed, ever. He also added links where there should be links, but without a doubt missed some spots.
04/25/09
Some rules changed, and stuff.

Some more shit was added / revised. "Guides" was added to the relevant sciences page, along with a lengthy lecture on percentages and timetables.
Goddamn this news post sucks . . .

=================== ======== ( ( ( Zombies ) ) ) ======== ===================
A zombie is simply a reanimated corpse. That's the only requirement. In recent years, the term zombie has been expanded to include mutants, infected humans, and certain monsters, so long as they behave in a way is considered zombie-like. Zombies come in many varieties and have varying degrees of realistic probability, scientific accuracy, spreadability, strength, sensory capability, and intelligence. Below is a compilation of different kinds of zombies, along with all that is currently known about them.
For planning purposes, use the ZSC Zombie.
=================== ======= ( ( ( ZSC Zombie ) ) ) ====== ===================
The official zombie of the Zombie Survival Crew. A challenging zombie that is designed to obey as many scientific principles as possible, with the exception that it is a reanimated corpse. Physics, biochemistry, and behavioral sciences all influence what we currently know about this zombie. Since it is designed to be as realistically plausible as possible while maintaining a very high threat level, it is the most difficult zombie to plan for without going to fantasy land. It's evolution began when we switched to runners on page 435. Senior members must survive against these.
Creator. . . . . . . . . . . . : BetaOrionis, for use in Zombie Survival Crew (2008)
Relative Realism . . . . : 9
Threat Level. . . . . . . . : 7
Life Span . . . . . . . . . . : Roughly 5 years
Durability . . . . . . . . . . : 9
Method of Infection. . . : Unknown Virus, spread by any infected tissue entering the body.
Incubation Period. . . . : Minutes to hours, depending on severity of infection and will power.
Method of Destruction : Significant damage to the brain.
Behavioral Overview . : Running and screaming. Cannot think, climb, or cooperate.
Extra facts (you'll need these)
- This zombie's buoyancy for the first few weeks is entirely dependent on the buoyancy of the human before infection. After a few weeks, the methane from the rotting of the bacteria that have died eating the zombified flesh will cause the zombie to float, and it will continue to float until a decent portion of the flesh has eroded away and the bones outweigh the methane, at which point it will sink and walk on the sea bottom until decomposition is complete.
- This zombie freezes at roughly -0.4 Celsius, or 31.2 Fahrenheit, assuming it has not absorbed excessive salts.
- This zombie's flesh is extremely toxic because of the presence of the virus in it, killing anything, bacteria included, that tries to feed on it. Humans reanimate due to the complex structuring of their brains, other things just stay dead. For this reason, the zombie does not rot, and takes five years to decompose from mechanical weathering (wind, rain, sun, freezing, bullets, etc)
=================== === ( ( ( Max Brooks Zombie ) ) ) ==== ===================
Brooks created this zombie for a fictional survival guide and it was considered the standard zombie for use in the ZSC up until the creation of the ZSC zombie. The ZSC zombie actually slowly evolved out of this one, as one characteristic was changed at a time, until the ZSC became its own type. The only remaining similarity is the Life Span and Method of Destruction. This zombie is really closely related to the George A Romero zombie, and some consider it to be merely a more explicitly explained version. Newcomers to the ZSC test their mettle on this basic zombie.

Method of Destruction : Destruction of the brain.
Behavioral Overview . : Shambling and moaning. Cannot think, climb, or cooperate.
=================== = ( ( ( George A. Romero Zombie) ) ) = ===================
Credited as being the original zombie, it's primitiveness can be seen in it's stats. These creatures rose from their graves for no apparent reason and began attacking the living. They have low strength, no intelligence, can't climb, can't run, walk at half speed, and are vulnerable to just about every imaginable type of attack. As long as you don't trip over yourself and lie on the ground screaming as they slowly advance on you, you'll be fine. Only a threat if you are sleeping in a cemetery. It sure scared the shit out of those primitive people of the sixties, though.

Behavioral Overview . : Shambling and moaning. Cannot . . . do anything else. Yeah.
=================== === ( ( ( Rage Virus Infected ) ) ) ==== ===================
Not true zombies, but they fit the bill in every other respect. Still living humans infected with the appropriately named "Rage" virus, they attack any living human with incredible vigor. The run like hell and show signs of increased strength, perhaps doubled. Smarter than your average zombie, they have shown signs of very basic problem solving and rational thinking. In addition, they can voluntarily vomit blood at high speed. Fortunately, you can kill them just like any other human. And they tend to stay indoors unless prey is detected. The virus originated in monkeys and spread when animal rights activists broke into a lab and were bitten.

Method of Destruction : Same as human. Damage to organs, poison gas, cancer, etc.

=================== ==== ( ( ( Dawn of the Dead ) ) ) ==== ===================

=================== == ( ( ( Resident Evil {T-Virus} ) ) ) == ===================
Zombies shamble until the effects of rigor mortis wear off and the blood leaks from their veins and seep into their skin. The zombies then move onto the stage known as "Crimson Head", a type of running zombie. They run, scream, bite, and claw at you with sharp nails. After a while the T-Virus begins to mutate within its dead host turning them into a primitive "Licker". They behave just like Crimson Heads but can climb walls and attack with an extremely long tongue. They continue to mutate until they become a full "Licker" and no longer look human. Animals and plants may also become infected, but the latter only through lab tests or infected water. The Animals become violent and behave much like human zombies. Zombified birds can still fly, lions still leap, etc. Insects also can become infected but after a short period of time they mutate and become gigantic and posionous. Mutants like the "Hunter" (a lizard human hybrid that comes in several forms), Licker (lab bred, usually more deadly), and Tyrants are built by the Umbrella Corporation to not only inlude power but obedience and intelligence. The most sucsessful though is the Tyrant series. These monsters are mutated humans that under went many lab tests and modifications. In early games primitive Tyrants had claws and exposed organs but later in the series Umbrella fixed this and made them more human-like. They only showed their true colors after being fatally wounded, which causes them to mutate and become more like primitive models.

Extremely intelligent. They think like humans, communicate, plan, shoot guns, drive, ambush, etc. The only thing that holds them back is their lack of speed. Animals can be infected as well as plants and insects later in the series. The demon can reincarnate in another host if their current host is destroyed, while keeping any information or memories from their past hosts.

=================== ===== ( ( ( Voodoo Zombi ) ) ) ====== ===================
These, in a sense, are the original zombies. They have existed in Haitian folklore since the beginning of Haiti's recorded history (1492) so it can safely be assumed that no creation date will ever be established. Unlike today's zombies, zombis do not automatically crave the living, but have no free will of any kind. They were revived by a Bokor for the sole purpose of doing his bidding, which typically involved attacking the living. Little information is available, but we do know that they were of the shambling variety. No information on vocalization or intelligence.

=================== ( ( ( GrindHouse/Planet Terror Zombies ) ) ) ==============
(By RocketBean) : They can jog from what I remember, its a human strain only, they retain their memory from past lives but seem to lose this as well as their "humanity" slowly (once again, from what I remember), and they mutate so they are barely humanlike. Oh and they don't decompose. They actually grow tumors and other things like that. The only time I saw decomposition from a zombie was when he was freshly infected. His balls fell off and that was it.

=================== ======== ( ( ( Drauger) ) ) ======== ===================
Draugers keep mostly to themselves. They sit in their graves all day protecting their treasure and attacking grave robbers, but sometimes during the night they rise from their grave in a wisp of smoke and proceed to attack the living. The Drauger possesses super human strength and the ability to change in size. Normal humans can only "defeat" (by defeat I mean temporarily stop them since Norse myth claims only a hero can permanently put them to rest) by wrestling them into their graves. The first thing he does is gather resources and travel 2 miles to his friend's house. Very low population density, the roads have a very low chance of being clogged. He does however, require that his mother cooperates with him. Not the most likely scenario, and she'll likely take some convincing, which will waste time. His first day does not require a trek out to deal with unknown people though, so as long as he can convince mommy, there won't be many problems.
Odds of convincing mommy using only one day : 80% (generous)
Odds of successful travel on the road in very low density area : 95%
95% of 80% = 76%
Day 1 : 76%
Once he's in there, he does not do anything risky, at all, until after the first year. No added risks from individual activity(100% survival). HOWEVER, he is in a gargantuan house, which is an adequate target of looters and thieves. It's a relatively well hidden area, though, so there's a low chance of discovery(5% chance of discovery). If discovered, he has no firearms so will likely be taken over(80%), unless he has a zombie moat(. Zombie moat isn't likely due to the population density and the presence of a hill, gate, and woods(20%). Also, he lives in a wooded area, which has a good chance of being lit up in the weather is dry enough. Again, this is why I'd want to know his location, but forest fires are a probable scenario for the most part, because some idiot, somewhere, will always try to burn the zombies. The odds of someone burning a zombie goes down as the population of survivors dwindles, so it's highest in the first month, but never goes away.
5% discovery, with an 80% chance of being conquered if discovered, but protection is offered by a zombie moat (20% chance of moat). 20% of 80% is 16% chance of being discovered and having a conquering prevented by a zombie moat. That leaves (80 minus 16) 64% chance of being conquered if discovered. 64% of 5% is just over 3%, so 3%.
Chance of being conquered : 3%
Chance of not being conquered : 97%
Fire : hard to tell because I don't have a definite location, but I'll just estimate it at 10% for the first two periods (1 week and 1 month) and 5% each period after that.
Death in fire : 10%
Not death in fire : 90%
90% of 97% of (day 1) 76% = 66.384%, or 66%
Week 1 : 66%
Because population size gets exponentially smaller as period gets exponentially bigger, the odds of being looted remain consistent throughout the entire outbreak, 3% each period in this case. I explained fire already, so:
Month 1 : 57%
Month 6 : 52%
This hasn't factored in the possibility of internal mutiny, illness, earthquake, etc, but I'm keeping it simple. I like to add an automatic 3% chance of dying for every period for unseen circumstances, and it stacks for each period.
Day 1 : 76%
Week 1 : 66%
Month 1 : 57%
Month 6 : 52%
Becomes,
Day 1 : 73%
Week 1 : 62%
Month 1 : 52%
Month 6 : 46%
Anyway, at this point, he finally runs out of food, and that 20% chance of a zombie moat comes back to haunt him. With no firearms, he cannot kill zombies, so there is a 20% chance that he will not be able to escape to forage for food and will die just like that (80% survival). Then there's the problem of actually getting out there and not attracting zombies in the process. Not too difficult given the population density. I'd say he's got a 10% chance of encountering them, so 90% survival.
90% of 80% of 46% is 33%
Then I add the fire and looting for year 2, and my constant 3% unforeseen, and it comes out to 29%
Since there are no other problems I can conceive of during that time,
Year 2 : 29%
Now we're in the ten year stretch, and he can't live through it. He has no garden, hunting ability, or otherwise, and all canned food expires with the third year, so he will definitely starve to death (0% survival).
0% of 29% = 0%
Year 10 : 0%
If he had survived, I would have added the usual fire/looting/unforeseen, but it all still comes to 0 so I didn't bother.
So there you have it.
Day 1 : 73%
Week 1 : 62%
Month 1 : 52%
Month 6 : 46%
Year 2 : 29%
Year 10 : 0%
This is also why I use the times that I use. Each period is 4 to 6 times longer than the last one, so it makes it easier to keep track of fire, looting, etc. I don't actually DO the math for every plan, but this is how my mind looks at these things. I only point it out because you are just arbitrarily dropping the odds by 7 to 9% for each period regardless of the applicant's planing. I'M NOT SAYING ANYONE HAS TO DO THIS MUCH WORK, JUST PRETEND LIKE YOU DID.
Anyway, yeah. I'm tired now. Zzzz . . .

(Under Construction)
I have to track down some of my older arguments. Like the force needed to break a skull, etc. The following paragraphs are not necessarily connected, or even related, but are tidbits that I'll probably never organize.
To answer the general animal-zombie question:
The zombie virus simply kills everything else. Only humans reanimate. The reasons for this are currently unknown, but speculation tends toward the idea of the human brain being more complex. Either that, or the Z virus acts like any other human disease, and can't bridge the specie gap. Fortunate, that. Were that not the case, we would have to guard against ticks and mosquitos and such. Survival would be close to impossible.
Did you know that AIDS is one the most rapidly evolving viruses ever discovered? It's one of the reasons a cure is near impossible. Biochemistry-wise, there are dozens of strains already present. Even with this fact, it is still limited to humans. You probably know about as much about evolution as any average person, but the average person actually doesn't know much. It's not like the Z virus would just evolve in a human host into something designed to survive in another specie. It would have to have some practical uses in the current host. Nor will the whole Z virus population evolve together. If one Z virus cell were to evolve into something that could transfer to a squirrel, then that one cell would have to transfer from that zombie into a squirrel. Any other zombie would not be able to infect it, not to mention a squirrel would simply be eaten whole. The odds of spreading to just one other specie are just really bad, and the odds of spreading to multiple species is ridiculous, especially when you consider the mortality rate of the virus.
Bear in mind, the Z virus does a VERY complex, and VERY specific task. It's almost like it was intelligently designed for the job, by a scientist, or something greater. Something so very complex would very difficult to modify to perform other tasks, via genetic engineering OR evolution. Again, unlikely.
That's where the shark suit, duct tape, and gas mask come into play. Full body protection at all times. Not that it would matter, the ecosystem would be destroyed. Earth would be ecologically unstable and humans would die regardless of their anti-Z defenses. We'd all be fucked pretty hard. If we were to go that way, even plants could get infected, so you could die just eating an apple. Almost completely impossible to defend against.
===
The simple answer to this is that zombies are not real. Allow me to elaborate this argument. In order to move, energy must be expended. A zombie moves constantly, never sleeping nor resting, yet, does not need to eat. It is therefore living off of nothing, metabolizing nothing, and moving nonetheless. It is creating energy, which as any scientist can tell you, is physically impossible. To answer your question on digestion, yes. The zombie does indeed simply force flesh down the tubes and fill up on it. If enough flesh is pushed in then it will eventually (by roughly 250lbs of flesh (according to Brooks, who is almost never right, but it's all I've got)) be forced out of the other side of the zombie. This of course results in the zombie eating the flesh that has already been forced through the body, which simply forces more flesh out of the rectum and the zombie keeps eating in an infinite cycle.
===
- When a human dies their muscles are relaxed (fast zombie).
- After 3 hours Rigor Mortis sets in and stays for 72 hours (slow zombie).
- But after about 72 hours the body returns to its flaccid state (fast zombie).
- This is of course excluding the fact that the body stops producing ATP at the time of death which causes the muscles to go through "lactic acid fermentation" which is basically a series of muscles cramps, which is rigor.
- Assuming zombie will go through those phases slow and fast zombies are both possible. BUT if zombies still create ATP and ADP which are necessary for movement and muscle contraction then Fast zombies are prevalent.
- It really depends on what the body goes through and what it's stages are Post Mortem, to say weather we get fast or slow zeds, or both.

=================== ===== ( ( ( Joining the ZSC ) ) ) ===== ===================
To become a member you need to submit a well thought out, realistic, highly detailed plan of what you would do to survive a Class 4 zombie outbreak (world wide). Your plan should be no shorter than 4,000 characters, or roughly half the maximum length of a post, although it may span several posts as there is no limit to how long it may be. Kindly follow standard writing conventions and avoid the use of humor, sarcasm, and leet. It must include your age, gender, height, weight, build, primary shelter, location, town population or population density, and the distance and direction of nearby cities. Your plan may also include any special skills or abilities that you think will aid you in your survival efforts. A list of relevant supplies and equipment should be provided as well. If you're going to use something that no one knows about, describe it or use a link.
Junior Membership is granted to anyone who can obtain a 2% survival rating for year 5 in a class 4 Max Brooks Outbreak. JMs can post, hang out, and advise, but can't review, check in new members, post scenarios, or vote.
Membership is granted to anyone who can obtain a 2% survival rating for year 10 in a class 4 ZSC Outbreak. Members have all freedoms of JMs, but can also vote, post scenarios, and review plans.
Alternatively, your plan may be excepted (and membership granted) if it exhibits merit in some other respect (originality, outcome, strategy, resourcefulness, etc). Discretion is up to the reviewing member(s) and finalized by a senior or special member. Prevent yourself from dying by minimizing your reliance on variable circumstances and by avoiding risky activity.
This is a sample format created by Beta and it's recommended that you follow it if this is your first time planning. Feel free to copy, paste, and fill it out, or use your own format if you think it's better. Additional sections may be added if relevant or desired.
The zombies you are planning for are ZSC Zombies. Information on them can be found on the "Zombie Types" blog on the ZSC's userpage: http://the-zsc.newgrounds.com/news/pos t/209008
Plan for the worst, hope for the best. Your plan should assume that the infection starts in the nearest high-population area, and reaches your town as quickly as a bitten driver would reach it, assuming the driver started evacuating in response to the first news cast that covers the "violent rioting".

Here is an example of a decent plan, created by Beta from a fictional applicant's perspective, for your education/entertainment.
At 00/00/00 00:00AM, Cassiopeia wrote:
STATS
Age/gender - 18/F
Height/weight - 5'7", 107 pounds
Build - Slim/athletic
Primary shelter - My house, two story with basement and attic. I live with my dad, but he's always away on business, so I more or less live here alone.
Location/town size or population density - Suffolk County, a semi-rural area for miles in every direction. Average 650 people per square mile.
Nearby cities - NYC, 230 miles to the west. Just more rural communities every other direction.
ABILITIES
I'm a cross-country runner, and a light sleeper. I operate well during constant moderate activity without sleep for up to 20 hours. I am a pretty fast tree climber. I am also an ex Girl Scout, a model, and a ninja.
CLOTHING
I usually wear a skirt, flip-flops, and a tank-top, except in winter. During the outbreak, I will wear jeans and a tight-fitting t-shirt, with sneakers, except inside the barricade during summer, when I will wear nothing but a towel to cut down on laundry and water usage.
EQUIPMENT
I have access to a revolver, and 200 bullets. I also have a massive tool chest with everything on it, and some chains in the basement. There is a decent supply of firewood in the shed, and an axe, which I will move to inside the house.
STARTING OUT
I'm barricading my house. I will use cabinet doors and small tables to board up windows, but will only lock doors, not board them up. They are 1.5 inch thick solid pine, so I'm not worried about zombies breaking through any time soon. I also will fill all sealable containers with water, and put a piece of silver in each one (I have a lot of earrings). Silver kills bacteria.
DAY TO DAY LIVING
Once every available container is filled, I would ration my food to see how long I can afford to stay inside. Any containers that I have emptied will be weighed down with kitchen utensils and left on the roof to collect rain. Perishable food is eaten first, and clothing is worn sparingly to cut down on water usage. Dirty clothing leads to disease. I can shower using as little as 2 quarts of water, but this will be done sparingly as well, especially if water is short. I'll keep my mind occupied reading from my dad's huge bookshelf, exercising using my weights, and trying to learn how to dance better. I'll probably also spend a lot of time masturbating because that clears your mind and can really prevent insanity.
SUPPLY ACQUISITION
Since I live in a rural-ish area, zombies will not show up in excessive numbers. I plan to kill them as they show up. I will attach a hammer to a length of chains using a carabiner and swing it down into zombies' heads from out of a window. It won't kill them very quickly, but it will eventually destroy their heads. I can just do this as soon as one shows up to prevent a build up of zombies that can break my defenses. When I need supplies and there are no zombies around, I will go searching. I will travel at night wearing dark blue, long sleeve shirts, a ski-mask, and my Jika-tabi. Since I will be very quiet and there are no street lights, I will be virtually undetectable. I will carry the revolver (loaded, safety on) and a medium sized duffel bag with a small amount of food and water in it. I will break into un-boarded-up houses, since they definitely have no one living in them. The noise I make breaking the glass isn't much of a concern because it's unlikely there are any zombies in the immediate area. I will enter the house and climb up to either the rooftop, or the second floor and lock myself in a bathroom. When the sun comes up, I will quietly explore the house and gather anything i need. If I get stuff, I will wait for nightfall, and then transport everything back home. If it's emptied out, I'll relax and move on to another house after night comes again. IF all the houses are empty then I'll have to travel to one of the farms a few miles east. There's an organic food farm that grows everything 3 miles away, so that's a guarantee for food.
LONG TERM
Once canned food starts to expire I'll need to start growing my own food. I'll spend some nights cultivating the land on the nearby farms, planting seeds and such in the spring. I should have worn the zombie population really thin by that point. Once everything's planted I'll move to another farm and do the same. I'll chart where I'm growing what so I never lose track of anything. I'll harvest in the fall, and dig several holes, eight feet deep, near my primary shelter. I'll store my food in those to maintain some semblance of freshness (average temperature year-round at 7 feet below surface is 50 degrees Fahrenheit). Yum.
RESTARTING CIVILIZATION
I'm adding this section 'cause I think it's important. :3
Once I've gotten a strong food economy going, it's time to rebuild civilization. I can't repopulate the world by myself after all! *turns to the member section* Hmm . . . let's see. BetaOrionis is closest at about 230 miles, followed by Fro, Reaper561, and then Night-Stalker. There's a pretty good chance that at least one of them would've survived, so I should make it a point to try to find them. I'll travel in the summer of year ten. Zombie pop will be really low everywhere, and waiting longer won't help much at this point. I'll be traveling by bicycle, only because it doesn't take fuel. I'll strap my duffel bag to my back and bike to NYC to look for BetaOrionis first. I'll use whatever I can find to leave messages on buildings, I'll scream really loud, just whatever will get any human's attention. Anyone still alive by now will be competent, and I can handle a few stray zeds if I encounter them. If after a full month of traveling and screaming I still haven't found anyone I'll move on to Lock Haven to look for Fro. It's a smaller area so it should be easier to search. I'll spend a week or two there but then I'll have to head back. If I couldn't find him then I'll just go back to NYC and search it again, then head back to Suffolk for the fall harvest. I'll wait till next year then try again, but with different cities.
FINAL WORDS
Huzzah!
=================== ======== ( ( ( Grading ) ) ) ======== ===================
Up until page 435, plans were reviewed and then graded as either "good enough", or "not good enough". Beta decided that this system was "not good enough", and designed the Timetable Grading System. Your plan will now always be reviewed in depth, section by section, followed by a grade using a timetable, which will then be followed by a short explanation. The timetable will look something like this:
Survival probability estimates.
1 day. . . : %
1 week . : %
1 month. : %
6 months: %
2 years . : %
5 years . : %
10 years : %
GPO. . . . :
If you have a 40% chance of dying on the first day (60% survival), and a 40% chance of dying during the first week, your odds by the end of "1 week" will be 36%, or 60% of 60%. GPO stands for Greatest Possible Outcome, and it tells you what's going on assuming you survived. It's (usually) just for laughs so don't take it (too) seriously.
Details on creating timetables can be found in Guides.
=================== ========= ( ( ( Failure ) ) ) ========= ===================
If your first plan fails, which almost all of them do, you either need to scrap the plan if it isn't working, or revise it using the feedback submitted by the members' reviews. If you want to contest your failing grade then you can request a review by a higher level member, but you better have a damn good reason for contesting the fail, not just a complaint that they graded too hard, or that the timetable is off by a few percent.
